Your Cadillac and Extended Warranties

Many automobile buyers today prefer purchasing Cadillacs because they are one of the most reliable automobiles in the world. In addition they come with an attractive 4 year, 50,000 mile warranty that goes above and beyond the standard 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty provided on many new cars. With Cadillac ranking as the luxury brand of automobile in the world, backed by a sterling and reliable reputation you may want to give serious thought to whether you should purchase and extended warranty the next time you’re shopping for a new Caddy.

There are actually several factors that should be taken into consideration when making the decision regarding whether an extended warranty for your new Cadillac purchase is the right decision for you or not.

First, you should consider how long you plan to keep the Cadillac. If you believe you will be either trading or selling the Cadillac within the term of the provided warranty, which is four years, then it is easy to realize that an extended warranty is not a good choice. On the other hand, if you plan to keep the Cadillac for quite some time, beyond the term of the existing warranty, then it is a good idea to go ahead and make the investment in the extended warranty.

You might also consider the length of your loan term if you do plan to keep the Cadillac for awhile. Keep in mind how frustrating it can be to be forced to shell out money out of your pocket for expensive repairs on a vehicle that you are still making notes on. Therefore, if you are planning to keep the car and the term of your loan is longer than four years, the length of the provided warranty, you might want to go ahead and get the extended warranty.

You should also consider how much of a risk you want to take regarding large and expensive repair costs. An extended warranty can definitely limit how much money you will have to pay out of your pocket regarding expensive repairs and it can also provide a known value for those repairs. This, of course, should also be balanced with the fact that you must make an up front investment in the extended warranty, realizing that there may never be a problem at all with your Cadillac that would require you to use your extended warranty.

It is also important to realize that you do not necessarily need to make the decision regarding whether to purchase an extended warranty the day you drive your new Cadillac off the lot. You do have some time to think about it. In fact you can purchase an extended warranty several months after making the initial purchase. It is a good idea to keep in mind; however, that if you wait until a year a or more after the purchase or until after you have put 12,000 miles or more on your Cadillac the price of the extended warranty will be higher. Therefore, if you do plan to purchase the warranty, it’s a good idea to go ahead and purchase it at the same time as you purchase the car or make sure you purchase it within that 12 month, 12,000 mile window of opportunity.

If you do elect to purchase an extended warranty after the purchase, do take the time to check with the Dealer Service department first to make sure they will honor that type of extended warranty.

Taking the time to consider these facts and guidelines regarding extended warranty purchases and your new Cadillac can make the process of owning and maintaining your Cadillac much easier and simpler.
